Bow Wow Wow

This week I am going to take a trip back to the past to some of my favorite 80s songs.  We'll start the week off with a song by Bow Wow Wow, I Want Candy.  This song is fun, upbeat, and romantic.  I love it.

I would also like to share a short film I discovered while browsing You Tube called The Maker.  I may start doing this from time to time, if I find other things worth sharing.

The Pierces

Today I present to you a song called Secret by The Pierces.  It's quirky and kinda dark, yet fun.  Enjoy.

Cool Rainbows

This is a nice treat called Universe by Cool Rainbows.  I listened to a few of their songs and this is my fave, it's just real laid back and easy going.

Kimbra

This is a song called Miracle by Kimbra.  This song is fun, upbeat, sounds like it walked right out of a 70's disco club.  I love the strings in the background.  If you're looking for a good song to pick you up this is it.

Pikachunes

This is a video from Pikachunes the song is Nervous.  This song fun and reminds me of 80's New Wave music which I like, plus you have to give the guy some credit for wearing that suit in public and his awesome dance moves.

Princess Chelsea

This week I would like to share some videos of these odd musicians I have recently come to like via the internet.  I don't really know what style of music these are but I like them and I think that you will too.

The first is a fun song from Princess Chelsea called Cigarette Duet.  I really like this one, the lyrics are clever, the music is good, and I like the way the video is shot.  It's very retro.

Janes Addiction

Here is a video from one of my favorite bands of all time, Jane's Addiction.  I love these guys.  From the first time I saw the video for Stop on 120 Minutes to now I can't get enough of this band.  Dave Navarro is a guitar genius I love his use of chords, smokin' guitar solos, and songwriting.  Perry Farrell's lyrics are unlike any others, his vocals are haunting, and he always gives a rockstar performance.  Eric Avery's bass lines drive the old songs and Stephen Perkins drumming and use of percussion is icing on the cake.

Here is a link to one of my favorite old Jane's Addiction songs Ocean Size.

Sonic Youth

Hello, and welcome to my music blog.  Five days out of the week I will try to link to a video or audio file for your listening pleasure, to a band that fits a weekly theme.  Sometimes a will ramble, sometimes I won't. This week I will be focusing on some great alternative music.  My goal is to stir up fond memories, or introduce you to new bands.

The first band I would like to link to is Sonic Youth,  my first introduction to them was through the album Goo, their first major label release,  which is still my favorite.  I have recently rediscovered them and have been listening to them nonstop for the last couple of weeks.  To me their music is summery, and sensual.  I love the sustained chords and alternate tunings they use to create their haunting melodies.  I love the dreaminess of a lot of Sonic Youths songs, their melodies can turn from beautiful and happy sounding to dissonant with dark undercurrents in a few seconds.  With that said here's a link to the song Sunday from the album A Thousand Leaves.
